If your Viking gate has a cracked weld, a snapped hinge post, or a fabrication failure where the frame meets the operator mount, you need a shop that understands Viking’s steel and aluminum work, not a general welder guessing at it. In Orlando, we stock and install Viking-compatible welded assemblies and fabrication repair for most residential swing and slide gate models, with typical repair work running $275 to $850 installed depending on the failure point and material thickness. Most crack-and-reinforce jobs are done in one visit because we carry the right stock, the right rod, and the right operator remounts on the truck.
The usual discovery moment goes like this: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or the opener’s been straining for weeks and the weld at the motor bracket finally tears loose. Or worse, a hinge weld pops and the gate drops six inches overnight. You can hear it before you see it, usually. A grinding noise when the gate moves, then a crack line in the paint, then a visible gap where steel used to meet steel.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking’s residential line in Central Florida is mostly the G-5 and R-6 series swing gates plus the S-2 and SL-2 slide gates, and we work on all of them. The welding and fabrication failures we see most often are on the gate leaf itself rather than the operator: the frame corner joints, the hinge-to-post connection, the operator mounting plate, and the picket-to-rail welds. On Viking gate frames specifically, the horizontal rails are typically 2-inch square steel or aluminum tube, and the failure pattern we see in Orlando is almost always at the bottom corner where water sits after our afternoon storms.
When you call us, have the model plate from the operator handy but also know this: the operator model does not tell us the gate frame spec. Viking gates were often welded by different fabricators depending on which installer built the job, so the metal thickness varies. We measure tube gauge and check whether the frame is steel or aluminum before quoting. On OEM versus aftermarket, for Viking welded frame sections we prefer to repair and reinforce the existing frame with plate steel at stress points rather than try to source an entire replacement leaf, which often arrives with welds that don’t match your original gate’s geometry. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Viking, and our experience is that a properly reinforced factory frame outlasts most replacement leaves anyway.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch corner. This is the classic bottom hinge weld failing. The weight of the leaf pulls down and out, and the weld at the hinge leaf slowly tears. If you lift the latch end and feel play, the hinge weld is already compromised.
- Cracked paint in a straight line across a rail. That line is not cosmetic. It tells you the tube flexed beyond what the weld allowed, and a stress crack is forming underneath. On Orlando gates, salt air near the coast and humidity further inland accelerates this once moisture gets into the crack.
- The opener groans and the gate shudders at mid-travel. Usually a failing operator bracket weld, where the arm mounts to the gate frame. The motor keeps pushing but the frame is flexing, and that shudder is steel twisting against a dying weld.
- Rust weeping from a weld line. Weld seams are the first place water creeps in on powder-coated frames. Once rust bleeds through the coating, the weld underneath is degrading. On Viking steel gates older than ten years in this climate, that is a repair window, not a wait-and-see.
- A picket rattles loose or falls out of the bottom rail. The tack welds Viking fabricators use on pickets are often the lightest welds on the whole gate. Vibration from the opener works them loose over years, especially on gates that cycle dozens of times a day.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For welding and fabrication repair on Viking gates in Orlando, expect $275 to $850 installed depending on the failure point. A single hinge weld re-weld and gusset runs $275 to $400. Reinforcing a cracked bottom rail with plate steel runs $400 to $600. A failed operator mount with a cracked frame tube requiring a section replacement runs $600 to $850. If the entire leaf is beyond saving and you need a new fabricated gate leaf matched to your existing opener, that starts around $900 and goes up based on size and material.
Every one of these prices includes the stock and rod, grinding and prep, the weld itself, reinforcement if needed, and primer or cold galvanizing on bare metal before we leave. You get the written price before any work starts, every time, and the weld work is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair does not hold, the return visit is free. We do not weld a gate and hand you a bill with surprise line items.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things yourself: identify the crack and photograph it for us, and stop running the opener until we get there. Running an opener on a gate with a failing weld turns a $300 hinge repair into a $900 frame replacement plus a burned-out motor, every single time. We have seen operators tear themselves off their mounts and keep pushing until the circuit board fries.
What we do not recommend is firing up a big-box flux-core welder on a structural gate weld you care about. Gate frames take real tensile load, especially in wind. A weld that looks fine on the surface can fail instantly under cycles. High-tension gate components and structural welds are not a beginner project, and a bad weld on a hinge or operator mount is genuinely dangerous when it lets go. If you want to talk it through before we come out, call (321) 465-7089 and tell us what you are seeing. We will tell you straight whether it is urgent.
FAQs
How long do Viking gate welds last in Orlando?
Expect eight to twelve years on factory welds before Florida humidity and rain find the first weak point, with bottom rail and hinge welds failing first. Gates near salt air may show weld line rust in half that time. Properly reinforced repair welds with gusseting typically outlast the original factory welds.
Can the welded section be repaired, or does the whole gate need replacing?
Almost every welded failure we see on Viking gates is repairable. The exceptions are frames with rust through the tube walls, cracks that have propagated across more than two weld points, or leaves that have sagged so long the geometry is permanently sprung.
How long does a welding and fabrication repair take?
Single weld repairs including prep, weld, reinforce, and coating run one to two hours on site. A section replacement with the gate removed runs three to four hours. We typically do weld repairs in one visit and tell you exactly when we will arrive, with the tech’s name and photo sent before we get there.
Do you stock Viking-compatible hinge parts and weld-in sections?
We stock weld-in hinge plates, steel tube stock in the common Viking frame sizes, gusset plate steel, and cold galvanizing compound on the truck. If a specific bracket is needed, we order it and usually have it the next day.
