BFT keypad and intercom repair in Orlando typically costs $225 – $480 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad module, the wiring harness, or the full intercom station. Most Orlando homeowners call us after the gate stops responding to the code entirely, or the intercom audio turns to static so bad you can’t understand a word. We stock BFT-compatible keypads and intercom components on the truck, and our techs are factory-trained on BFT’s lineup, so in most cases we arrive once, diagnose the failed part, and complete the repair same day.
Here’s what usually happens: you punch in the code, hear the relay click or not, and the gate does nothing. Or the voice from the street sounds underwater. Sometimes the buttons work fine for years and then one digit stops registering, which forces everyone to hold the button down longer or press it twice. BFT keypads are sealed against rain, but Florida’s humidity and our afternoon downpours are relentless. The membrane seals crack. The circuit board traces corrode. The backlight dies. The fix is usually a straightforward part swap, not a full system replacement.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We repair keypads and intercoms across the BFT ranges you’re most likely to find in Orlando: Deimos, Thalia, Mitto, Rigel, and the older BFT EBP and CLONIX access control lines. If you’re not sure which model you have, open the keypad housing and look for the silver ID label on the back of the circuit board. BFT prints the model series there. The first two letters matter most: “DE” for Deimos, “TH” for Thalia, “MI” for Mitto.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Orlando: BFT keypads made after roughly 2017 use a different wiring protocol than the older ones. The older EBP series runs on a simple two-wire bus; the newer Deimos and Mitto keypads need four wires and a dedicated power lead. You cannot just swap a new keypad onto an old controller and expect it to work. We carry both legacy and current BFT-compatible parts, plus the right wiring adapters, so we’re not standing in your driveway guessing. On the OEM versus aftermarket question for BFT specifically, we generally recommend OEM BFT or BFT-licensed components, because BFT boards are fussier about voltage tolerances than most brands. A cheap aftermarket keypad that works on a LiftMaster may burn out a BFT control board within six months in humid Orlando conditions. We’d rather install the right part once.
For full transparency: Warden Gate Repair Orlando is an independent service provider and we’re not affiliated with BFT. We choose to stock BFT-compatible parts because BFT is one of the nine major brands we’re factory-trained to service, and because BFT gear is common across Central Florida’s gated communities and lakefront driveways.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Is Failing
- One or two keys need extra pressure or repeat presses. This is usually a worn membrane contact under the button. BFT keypad buttons sit on a flexible membrane, and after a few years of Florida sun exposure, the contact pad underneath flattens. It degrades gradually and then one day the digit just won’t register.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. This points to the relay circuit on the keypad board or a wiring break between the keypad and the gate control board. We test both, because fixing the keypad relay when the real fault is a corroded wire at the gate operator just means a second service call.
- Intercom audio is crackly, quiet, or distorted. Humidity is the culprit here. BFT intercom speakers have a paper or poly cone, and Orlando’s moisture gets in through micro-cracks in the housing seal. The cone absorbs that moisture and turns the speaker into a raspy mess. Sometimes a cleaning fixes it; more often the speaker element needs replacing.
- Backlight flickers or stays dark while the keypad still works. The LED backlight on BFT keypads is wired on a separate small circuit. When that circuit board develops a weak solder joint from thermal cycling, the light flickers on and off. It’s not dangerous, but it’s the first sign that the board is aging.
- The code works intermittently, especially after rain. Water intrusion is happening somewhere. On BFT keypads, the most common entry point is the seam where the front face meets the mounting plate. We re-seal the housing with a moisture-resistant gasket and replace any corroded board traces.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest Orlando pricing picture. A standalone BFT keypad replacement runs $225 – $340 installed. A BFT intercom handset or speaker repair usually lands between $180 and $320. If both the keypad and intercom need attention in the same visit, most jobs settle between $350 and $480. What pushes a job toward the higher end: a corroded mounting plate that needs re-fabricating, a wiring run that has to be pulled through brick or block, or a legacy BFT controller that requires a new interface board.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, any wiring repair, re-sealing the housing against Florida weather, and testing the full open/close/stop cycle before we leave. You’ll know the price before I touch anything. That’s the Warden rule, and it’s not negotiable. If we find additional damage while we’re working, we stop and show you exactly what we found, then get your approval on the updated written price before proceeding.
All BFT keypad and intercom repairs we do are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within a year, the return visit is free and we make it right. That promise is in writing on every invoice.

You can safely check two things yourself. First, verify the keypad is getting power. Look for the LED backlight or press a key and listen for the beep. No power at all usually means a tripped breaker, a blown fuse on the gate operator board, or a severed low-voltage line. Second, inspect the keypad housing for visible cracks, rust streaks, or ants. Florida ants love nesting inside keypad enclosures, and they short out circuit boards.
What you should not attempt: opening the keypad and probing the board with a multimeter, rewiring the harness, or swapping parts between two different BFT models. These run on 24V AC or DC depending on the model and series. Mis-wiring a live BFT keypad can toast the gate control board, and that’s a $400 – $800 part. If the keypad or intercom is misbehaving in a way that suggests a wiring fault, call us at (321) 465-7089 and we’ll send a tech who knows BFT wiring inside out.
FAQs
Expect 6 to 10 years from a BFT keypad in Orlando’s heat and humidity before buttons start failing. Units under direct afternoon sun or facing a lake with constant moisture exposure typically fail at the shorter end of that range.
Sometimes, yes. If the failure is a dirty membrane contact, a loose solder point, or a corroded connector, we can often repair the existing board for $85 – $150. If the membrane itself is torn or the board has water damage across multiple traces, replacement is the honest call.
Most BFT keypad replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site. Intercom speaker replacements run about the same. If we’re rewiring a run or rebuilding a mounting plate, plan for up to two hours. We typically schedule these within 1 to 3 business days of your call.
We carry BFT-compatible keypads, wiring harnesses, intercom speakers, and gasket seals on every service van. If your repair requires a specific control board we don’t have on hand, we order it immediately and schedule the return visit before we leave. Call (321) 465-7089 for a free estimate over the phone. We’ll tell you exactly which part you likely need and what it will cost before anyone steps foot on your property.
